  it may change the shape of your object. Remember there's no "bring back deleted polygons"
  option, so save a backup.Another option to hide polygons would
  be to turn your selection into a Material Zone, then use the turn down the
  opacity (Surfaces Tab - Geometry - Cutout Opacity).
